Tree management

Please note of the 1881 tree requests still outstanding from prior to the cyclone, approx. 200 relate to tree stump removal and a dedicated contractor is working through that list to manage. In terms of accelerating the workload,
All pre cyclone tree requests have received 2 x sms notifications to advise of the backlog and to explain the status. Those SMS requested customers to call again if they had concerns. Callbacks relatively low. Further discussions are underway with ICCC to consider further comms to the backlog of customers.
Please note all tree requests from any source are triaged so priority trees (those that will cause a hazard or safety problems) are actioned within 1-4 days.
Turf management
Mowing operations are still generally hampered by areas of wet ground where the weight of the mowers would cause damage, so all crews and contractors have been instructed to skip these areas and pick them up on subsequent cuts.
The grass growth will/has begun to slow with cooler nights, and so with some dry weather mowing operations will be back on track within a few weeks.
-
- Roadside mowing is currently 5-6 days behind schedule.
-
- Contract park mowing is currently 5-6 days behind schedule.
-
- RCC park mowing is a complete cut (9 working days) behind due to cyclone cleanup, public holidays and rain delays
Parks management

-
- Social enterprise has inspected and removed tree debris as required from 25 x T4 parks so far in April.
-
- RCC and social enterprise continue to clear debris stacked by contract mowing crews in lower profile parks.

-
- Fuel Free Zones (firebreaks) maintenance
-
- Slashing of mainland Fuel Free Zones for April was delayed by wet weather and is around 9 days behind schedule.
-
- 15% of SMBI Fuel Free Zones sites remain inaccessible due to boggy ground, fallen timber or storm debris. Cleanup works are ongoing.
Waste operations (non kerbside)
-
- Cyclone Related Green Waste: Through our mainland RaWCs and temporary sites we have collected over 22,000 m3 of green waste! – an indicator of the impact of TC Alfred on the community.
-
- Waste Centre (RaWC) Activity: Customer numbers at the RaWCs have returned to high numbers primarily due to school holidays and good weather conditions. Only 33% of transactions are green waste compared to 50% post EX-TC Alfred

- Green Waste Stockpile Management
· The mainland centres stockpiles are being managed with 4,623 tonnes of green waste removed from Birkdale and Redland Bay RaWC since 8 March 2025
· Additional servicing has commenced and the stockpiles on the Islands have reduced. Currently the volume of green waste at the island Recycling and Waste Centres is equivalent to 41 60 m3 truck loads compared to 66 loads this time last month. Risks are still present but are being managed with Iolar and our contractors.
The first figure is the current number of loads present and the second is what the number present was last month.
o Russell Island has 15 loads compared to 20 loads this time last month
o Macleay Island has 5 loads compared to 12 loads this time last month
o Lamb Island has 4 loads compared to 10 loads this time last month
o Karragarra Island has 1 load compared to 3 loads this time last month
o North Stradbroke Island has 8 loads compared to 11 loads this time last month
o Coochiemudlo Island has 8 loads compared to 10 loads last month
· Temporary green waste sites on the islands are being managed in combination with Island Operations and Parks and Conservation teams.
· Current Green waste volumes are at the temporary storage locations across the mainland and islands is in approximately 12,500 m3 and is composed predominately of branched material and mulched material. Where appropriate the material will be used on the islands for mulching operations.
Private Kerbside Greenwaste Collection
· Contractors undertaking the green waste collection have completed two sweeps of every street on the mainland, concluding that phase of the initiative, and are now progressing through a scheduled series of collections across our Island communities (NSI, Coochiemudlo, and SMBI) over the next three weeks.
Disaster Relief Australia have now concluded their services as of 30th April 2025. Disaster Relief Australia has also been working to assist eligible members of the community to recover from the impacts of TC Alfred and has to date completed 428 requests across the city.
