Flexible on-demand public transport services are being trailed in a number of regional areas in Queensland. This would provide a good solution to limited public transport options on the islands. Importantly, they are linked with Translink, so the cost is incorporated into your overall travel -bus to jetty, ferry to mainland, mainland bus and train. The current SMBI taxi could be resourced and contracted to trial the service, maintaining support to local business ad employment. Even better if it is an electric solution, charged from the sun.
While the need for improved parking at the jetties is clear, on Island public transport is one option to reduce parking pressure on the Island and reduce reliance on private transport. It is only one component of a sustainable and integrated transport solution for the Islands and mainland.
Please comment with suggestions and ideas on how we can work together to improve transport on the Islands.
