Do we need more off lead dog areas?

I have spoken to many residents requesting additional off lead dog areas. Some potential sites have been identified in Redland Bay, Russell Island, Macleay Island and Karragarra Island. To date, there has been no expressions of interest from Lamb Island.

The sites identified largely reflect areas historically used by local residents. The potential sites would be unfenced areas and may have seasonal or time of day limitations to protect wildlife and better allow shared community use. Once we have a list of nominated areas, we will go through a thorough process of community consultation to assess the location, strength of support and weigh up advantages and disadvantages prior to any changes to local laws to approve use.

Areas already nominated are indicated. Please let me know If there are additional areas that you would like considered. Email  [email protected].

Redland Bay – beach off the Esplanade, between Bay St and Boundary St

Russell Island – behind tennis courts in Union St (near BIMSARA)

Karragarra Island – West, Southwestern or Eastern end

Macleay Island – west of ferry terminal carpark, low tide access
