2024/25 green sealing program

This financial year Redland City Council is upgrading 28 roads on Russell and Macleay Islands as part of the Green Seal program.

By July we will have green sealed 11 streets on Russell Island and 17 on Macleay Island. This work underscores Council’s commitment to improving infrastructure on the Southern Moreton Bay Islands (SMBI) and enhancing them as a place to live, work and visit.

I advocated strongly for the islands and the upgrade of 21 streets has been funded by Redland City Council, with $3 million allocated for the Green Seal program in the 2024-25 Budget. The sealing of a further seven streets on Macleay Island was made possible through $967,052 funding from the Australian Government through Phase 4 of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program. Council contributed an additional $116,598.

Construction on Macleay Island began in mid-August of last year, followed by works on Russell Island in January 2025.

The roads scheduled for sealing on Russell Island are:

Further green sealing on the SMBI next financial year is subject to Council prioritisation and budget. I will continue to push for SMBI and Redland Bay roads and infrastructure funding in the next budget.

The Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) program supports local councils to deliver priority road and community infrastructure projects across the nation, supporting jobs and delivering benefits to local communities.
